Day-by-Day Itinerary
Follow this 4 days plan from start to finish, with real costs and local tips.
Day 1
Arrive Guilin & City Sights
Explore Guilin's compact city centre — Elephant Trunk Hill, lakes, and rice noodles.
Guilin Liangjiang Airport has direct flights from most Chinese cities. Airport bus to city centre is ¥20 (45 min).
The old town area is walkable and close to everything. Budget hotels from ¥120/night.
Guilin's most famous landmark — the elephant-shaped hill on the Li River. Entry ¥70, or view it free from the opposite bank.
Tip: Save the ¥70 — the best photo is from the free viewpoint across the river on Binjiang Road.
Beautiful at sunset and even better lit up at night. Free to view from outside; ¥35 to go inside.
The city's signature dish. A bowl costs ¥8–15 at local shops. Try the round noodle version with horse meat (traditional but optional).
Day 2
Li River Cruise to Yangshuo
The highlight — 4 hours cruising through China's most iconic landscape.
Most cruises depart from Zhujiang Pier, 30 min south of Guilin. Hotels arrange shuttle or take bus.
4-hour cruise through towering karst peaks, bamboo groves, and water buffalo. Lunch included on the boat.
Tip: Sit on the left side (port) for the best photo opportunities, especially the famous "20 yuan note" view.
The cruise drops you in Yangshuo town. Check into your hotel and explore on foot.
Yangshuo's main pedestrian strip. Tourist-oriented but good for people-watching. Beer Fish restaurants everywhere.
Outdoor light show directed by Zhang Yimou, performed on the Li River with karst peaks as backdrop.
Day 3
Yangshuo Countryside
E-bike through rice paddies, bamboo raft the Yulong River.
Every hotel rents e-bikes for ¥50–80/day. Head south along the Yulong River road — flat, scenic, minimal traffic.
A bamboo raft drifts you through quiet karst scenery. 1.5 hours, no motor — just a bamboo pole.
Tip: Book the Jiuxian → Gongnong Bridge section — it's the most scenic and avoids the tourist crowds at the start.
Simple local food: beer fish, stir-fried river snails, steamed vegetables. ¥40–60/person.
Cycle to Moon Hill and climb 800 steps for a panoramic view of the Yangshuo valley. Entry ¥15.
Evening free. Try a cooking class or rooftop bar in Yangshuo.
Day 4
Departure via Guilin
Morning exploring, then return to Guilin for departure.
Walk north from Yangshuo along the river path before the crowds arrive. Stunning misty karst views.
Direct bus from Yangshuo bus station, 90 minutes, ¥25. Or private car ¥150.
If you have time before your flight, this illuminated cave is 15 minutes from the city. 40-minute walk-through.
Airport bus from Guilin Railway Station (¥20, 45 min) or taxi (¥100).
Packing Tips
Waterproof bag or dry bag for the bamboo raft — splashing is guaranteed.
Sunscreen and hat — the Li River cruise has limited shade on the upper deck.
Insect repellent for the Yangshuo countryside, especially near the river.
Cash — many small vendors in the countryside don't accept digital payments.
